A ceremony was held marking the event at
Sir William Stephenson Public School,
1125 Athol Street South, Whitby on May 18th, at 9:30 AM - Followed by speeches, and a Birthday cake fit for a Queen! lovingly baked by Suzanne of Brooklin Bakery.
Special guest speaker was:

9,000 copies or $135,000.00 worth of ‘Our Sesquicentennial’ books, created as a memento of Whitby’s Sesquicentennial were given to all school children in Whitby, grades 1
to 6, Special thanks to the many volunteers who hand delivered that day. Also to the Shriners' group for trucks and men to help deliver them.
The Society's President, Margaret Boyce is proud to announce that the Whitby Historical Society has received communications from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth IIregarding the birthday celebrations. Birthday greetings were sent on behalf of The Whitby Historical Society and its members to The Queen,
including an "Our Sesquicentennial" Gift Book which was acknowledged with sincere thanks.

May 26th The Annual' Death by Chocolate Evening ' ---A delightfully sinful evening of chocolate delicacies was enjoyed! We'd like to thank everyone for attending and contributing to such a fantastic evening. The museum was packed with chocolate lovers. Everyone enjoyed the chocolate fountains and fresh fruits as well as some cheeses and other delicacies.
Thank you ... to all the volunteers who worked so hard to make this event such a success. Special thanks to Jane Snyder of Snyder Construction for donating chocolates from Williams Chocolates in Whitby.

"Celebration Concert" Friday June 23rd, 7:30 PM
at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church on Cochrane Street in
Whitby, Ontario Canada.
Featuring music from Royal operettas, musicals, film, pipe and band music. Special thanks to David Chambers and Karin Sheppard for organizing the event. It was a wonderful evening, well attended by the community.

Saturday, June 24, 2006 10am-4pm Open House

May/June 2006 marked the completion of our Ontario Trillium Foundation grant requirements and accounting. A special thank you to Margaret Boyce for doing such a fine job of managing all the reporting and tasks associated with fulfilling the mandate. A special thank you to Karin Sheppard for all her work with the catalogue and the many day to day museum curatorial duties.
June 24th Whitby Carnival - Many enjoyed this delightful afternoon sipping tea and sampling scones at the museum. And of course we had the ultimate topic of conversation
... the displays were wonderful !
The picture below is from Carnival Day 2005 - always a wonderful family outing, with the whole centre of town closed to traffic. Both Brock Street, Hwy # 12 and Dundas, #2 Hwy. Merchants offered free stuff, displays, fun. Support your Downtown Whitby Merchants. Remember independent retailers are part of our community and support home town initiatives.

Heritage Day - Sept 16th2006
Heritage Day was a huge success at the Museum
" The Longest Line of Washing in Ontario "

Pictured above Karin Sheppard demonstrates old tyme toys showing passers-by , among whom was Mayor Pat Perkins. Karin also had a table set up with Vaunie Gill, our window decor expert, teaching children how to make corn husk dolls. They all loved the wonderful results. Make sure you stop by next Heritage Day for some fun at the museum.

The Collections Committee,Chaired by Kathie Vanular, who has a degree in museum studies, began meeting on several occasions sorting through artifacts, looking after acquisitions, repairs etc. Many thamks to Frances Castle, Rod Angavarre, Eleanor Rycroft, Lynn Palmer, Mike Snettinger, Margaret Boyce, and Karin Sheppard for working so diligently on this project.

' High Tea Afternoons, at the Museum'
Several teas were held for seniors at the museum, displays were enjoyed by all. Two dates were arranged for A Special Home Tour, at Betty's with tea at the museum afterwards.
A Christmas Carole Evening was arranged by Margaret Boyce, President, as a special thank you to all the volunteers who worked so hard for the Whitby Historical Society in the past year.
